Entre sus islas, la del sol es la de mayor renombre, pues seg�n dice la leyenda de �sta parti� la primera pareja inca, Manco C�pac y Mama Ocllo, para fundar el gran imperio en el Cuzco como lo hab�a ordenado su padre, el Dios Sol.

A 3.815 m.s.n.m el Titicaca es el lago navegable m�s alto del mundo y con 8,400 kil�metros cuadrados de superficie, el segundo m�s grande de Sudam�rica. Dos tercios del total de su extensi�n corresponden a Per� y el restante a Bolivia.

En 1978 se estableci� la Reserva Nacional del Titicaca, abarcando un total de 36,180 hect�reas, compuestas principalmente por �reas h�medas, es decir, por sectores del propio lago. ISLA SUASI
La isla Suasi a 70km. Al norte de Puno, posee un albergue ecoturismo que promociona valores culturales andinos.

CORREDOR QUECHUA

Sillustani
Silenciosa y altiva necr�polis donde se yerguen las famosas Chullpas o monumentos cil�ndricos que guardan restos humanos de nobles Mallkus o Se�ores del lugar. Es el m�s conocido patrimonio arqueol�gico de Puno.

Pukara
La pir�mide escalonada elaborada por lo pobladores de Pukara a 106 Kms. Al norte de Puno, cuya antig�edad sobr?????Aepasa los 3,500 a�os, es impresionante y enigm�tica. A�n no se ha develado de todo su misterio.

Lampa

Tinajani

Tarukani
Rodal de Puyas Raimondi de gran extensi�n. La puya crece hasta llegar a 12 mts, de altura. Se encuentra a 12 Kms. Al Oeste de la ca�ada de Tinajani.

Ayaviri

Zepita
La iglesia es considerada como obra maestra de la arquitectura colonial. Fue constru�da por frailes dominicos en el siglo XVIII.

Desaguadero
Ciudad fronteriza y puente internacional con Bolivia. Se encuentra a 174 Km. de Puno. En las alturas de la provincia hay vestigios de arte rupestre en Pizacoma, con una antig�edad de 10,000 a�os AC. Y fortaleza de Tanka Tanka.

Yunguyo

Puno es sin lugar a dudas uno de los destinos m�s atractivos del Per� y uno de los m�s interesantes en el continente: pocas ciudades tienen el privilegio de ubicarse a orillas de una maravilla de la naturaleza como el Titicaca, el lago navegable m�s alto del mundo.

Cuenta la leyenda que de sus aguas emergieron Manco C�pac y Mama Ocllo, m�ticos fundadores del imperio de los incas. Lo cierto es que en la regi�n se desarroll� una de las culturas pre-incas m�s importantes, la Tiahuanaco, m�xima expresi�n del antiguo puAeblo Aymara.

La fundaci�n espa�ola de la ciudad data de 1668. Es una ciudad rica en expresiones del arte mestizo local: balcones coloniales, arcos de piedra labrada, iglesias barrocas y museos con estupendas piezas de arte textil y cer�mico. Sin embargo, quiz�s los mayores atractivos del lugar se encuentren a escasas diez cuadras de la Plaza de Armas, en las aguas del Titicaca: una vasta superficie de 8.560 km2 que los lugare�os surcan h�bilmente en embarcaciones hechas de totora, una especie de junco que crece en las orillas del lago (o en lanchas, cuando se trata de atender al visitante).

En el Titicaca existen numerosas islas, cada una con sus propias caracter�sticas y peculiaridades. En la isla de los Uros, cuyos habitantes descienden de uno de los pueblos m�s antiguos de Am�rica, se encuentran las t�picas viviendas hechas con totora,. En Taquile, por otro lado, se practican a�n las antiguas t�cnicas del tejido que el turista puede aprender si decide aceptar la habitual hospitalidad de sus moradores. En otras ciudades del departamento, como Pucar�, es la alfarer�a la que ha alcanzado renombre internacional, y en Sillustani a�n se pueden apreciar las chullpas (construcciones de piedra) de los Tiahuanaco.
